"comment": "Unusual appearance. Basically a broad diffuse arc like a bow from WNW to ENE. The lower edge of the arc was about 25* above the horizon. The upper edge was just beneath Polaris at about 44.5* altitude. A few brief rays appeared occasionally toward the NW beneath the arc. The general glow was so broad it could have been mistaken for thin misty cloud except for the slow changes, green glow, and occasional rays. Interestingly, the arc was fainter to invisible (about 9:50pm CDT) within a range of about 30* centered somewhat at Polaris, and brighter at the ENE and WNW extremeties. In general, very broad and diffuse, with a green glow about 3rd magnitude maybe."

"comment": "This may have been coincidental, but... The cross on the church next door used to be backlit by neon light at night. In the 25 years I've lived here, I've never seen them work. But when the aurora became active, so did those back lights! They came on and remained on though \n flickering, not steady."
